My favorite theme in Second Life: Yard sale

I went to a freebie store to look for some professional shoes. Not many choices for men. I ended up with casual shoes that were all black.

A lot of newbies were hanging around the store, so I chatted with them, gave them a BudgetJustified.com freebies folder, and invited them to join the group. A non-American guy told me he really wanted to be an actor.

Afterward, I went to the sandbox on the Sci Fi sim of Learn Avatar. I don’t know why Learn Avatar makes a big deal about themes for their sims. It’s not as though everything matches. And things are always under construction.

I’m planning to teach a few classes, to get more involved in Learn Avatar. I’m tired of taking the ‘classes’ that are currently offered. You don’t learn anything. You just follow a list of instructions to make something exactly the same size and shape as everyone else makes them. I’d like to put a bit more creativity into the classes. I asked Bogeyman about the requirements for mentor status.

“Teach three classes a week and help people with questions,” he said. Then I asked about headmasters.

“Attend staff meetings, help people out, and make sure the place doesn’t look like a yardsale.”

“What if the theme is Yardsale?” I asked.

“We have that,” he responded. “It’s called Themeless.”

The Nomad of Learn Avatar

I built an entry for the Sci Fi Chair contest. A lot of scripting involved again. It’s a rocket that goes to Mars and Saturn (planets floating above) when you sit on it. I also have some space rocks twirling near the rocket.

I was going to mess with the values to make the space rocks fade in and out, change their color, and change the picture stretched across them. But learning the particle function to make the exhaust come out of the manifold hurt my brain too much to take on any more scripting.

Cricket finally offered to give me bigger land. She sent the message just after I submitted my chair to Phi, so I don’t know if she was hanging out with Phi and Phi mentioned that I just submitted a chair. I told Cricket that I wanted to wait until I got back from my trip because I was considering switching to the sci fi neighborhood.

I don’t really need more land. I’m not building large houses, I’m building furniture-like devices. Maybe I’ll give up my land and become a Learn Avatar nomad.

Whose lap am I on

I logged on after today’s chair class was over, but received the announcement that the sci fi chairs were made of only four building blocks. So I knew I could build one quickly and I headed straight for class. Attendance had already been taken, but people were still hanging around. Asimov also showed up late and built a chair. Then he and Kristen built a giant hamburger.

Kristen had also built a bus stop and placed dummies of all the housemasters so they were waiting for a bus. The fake Phi was seated on the bus bench, so the real Phi sat next to herself on the bench. I tried to take a seat between the real and fake Phi, but landed inside the fake Phi instead. I couldn’t tell if I was on her lap or if she was on mine.
